Looking for Honesty and Faithfulness

For the Word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness. Psalm 33:4

There is place of trust—God’s Word.  His word is honest and faithful.  God’s Word never changes, for it is based upon His steadfast character.  His Word is dependable for today and for tomorrow.  If He leads in one direction today, He will not change tomorrow.  His character defines his Word.

God’s Word reveals His character.  He wants me to know Him.  That is what His word is all about. He invites me to recall His word in times of praise, in times of stress, in time of need, in time of grief, in time of temptation.  When I go to Him confused, I can trust Him to show me the path to clarity.  When I go to Him in anger, He will show me the way to peace.  When I go to Him in failure, He will show me Words of forgiveness and victory—His victory. Happy are those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or take the path that sinners tread, or sit in the seat of the scoffers; but their delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law they meditate day and night (Psalm 1:1-2 NRSV).

God’s Word is unique in honesty and faithfulness. God’s Word provides perfect laws that are always just and focused on my well-being. God’s Word includes life-directing precepts that guard the path of my life. God’s Word is timeless and beyond situational. Only God’s Word is totally right for my life and my situation, all the time, without fail.

The Word of the Lord is unique. No other words can bring light into the darkness of despair.  God is Light, and where He is there is no darkness.  The darkness is as light to Him says the Psalmist (139 NRSV). Upright means perfectly moral, perfectly just, nothing hidden, nothing to bring shame—in other words–without darkness.

The Word of the Lord is available to me at anytime and any place.  He speaks it to my heart.  He has written so that I can hold it in my hand and use it to turn away the darkness.  The Word of the Lord is a sword that I can use to turn away all temptations that threaten to bring darkness into my world.

The Word of the Lord is treasure that can keep me from sin.  The Word of the Lord can keep my way pure.  The Word of the Lord can strengthen me for the way.  The Word of the Lord can show me the way of the blameless.

God’s laws, God’s precepts, God’s commands, God’s decrees, God’s statutes are a blessing on which I can stand secure.

I haven’t begun to understand the power of God’s Word in my daily life.  What wisdom is offered to me through God’s Word!  What discernment between right and wrong!  What joy in escaping the snares that are set for me!  What hope for walking in the light. What fulfillment in knowing God’s plan, God’s will, and living it!  The Psalmist has declared that God’s Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.  God’s Word insures that I will not wander through this life without understanding, purpose, and direction.
