Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
Luke 3:21-22 (ESV)
Many people go through life without their father’s blessing. Who can understand the pain when a father fails to show or give his love to his child? Most of us long to hear our father say to us, “You are my beloved child; with you I am well pleased.” Even Jesus, who had lived for all eternity with His Father, must have felt loved and affirmed when He heard God’s words on the day He was baptized. This was God’s affirmation of “yes!” to Jesus. Surely He rejoiced when He heard God say, “Yes!”
If you are yearning for your father’s blessing, yearn no more. God longs to be your Father! He created you so He could love you. He is waiting to say loving and affirming words to you. He wants to say, “yes!”to you. In fact, if you listen closely, you can hear Him even now. Every person who says “yes” to God will hear “yes” in return, and will never lack a father’s love again. Oh, yes!
Oh, what a wonderful Christmas this will be when we hear “with you I am well pleased.” “Yes!”
