Choosing to be Upright

For the Word of the Lord is upright, and all His work is done in faithfulness. Psalm 33:4

Oh, Gracious Father, I hunger to know more of Your Word.  Your Word is the morning sun pouring through the window as it brightens the beginning of my day. Your Word floods my soul with You and Your hesed, Your kindness and faithfulness. Your Word stirs me to think again about the decisions I have made, the priorities I have set, the habits I have formed, and the attitudes that hold me in bondage. Your Word holds the “to do” list for my day.  Your Word excites within me a new understanding of Who You are!  I am reminded of Your wisdom and Your grace.  Your commands remind me not to wander.  I have a fresh look at Your purity and justice—exactly what I need to be light and salt to those whose lives I touch.

Teach me, O Lord, the way of your statutes, and I will observe it to the end.  Give me understanding,  that I may keep your law and observe it with my whole heart.  Lead me in the path of your commandments, for I delight in it. Turn my heart to your decrees, and not to selfish gain. Turn my eyes from looking at vanities; give me life in your ways. Confirm to your servant your promise, which is for those who fear you. Turn away the disgrace that I dread, for your ordinances are good. See, I have longed for Your precepts; in your righteousness give me life. (Psalm119: 33-40 NRSV)

Not only does Your Word bring me fresh reminders of Your power and authority, but I am also reminded of Your wonderful promises to me.  How faithful are Your promises! Let me see Your promises fulfilled in the lives of those I love today. Let me be one through whom You might fulfill the promise of hope for another this day. Open my heart and eyes to the promises that I have made to others, that in fulfilling those commitments, they may see You.
