I was getting a hamburger and realized the mountain behind us was beginning to crumble. The fence above grows closer to the edge with each new rain. If I lived in one of the apartments on the edge of the hill, I am sure I would feel like the world is on the verge of falling away beneath my feet!
As we get up this morning, the election is possibly over. Some will rejoice in the results, and some may feel the world is falling away right under their feet. Isn’t it a reality that our concern for our nation, for our world, may cause us to think the foundation for our lives is like rocks rolling down a hill? Even we who know God may forget the sure foundation of His love that is ours every day. The foundation of God’s love is so powerful that a friend of mine awakes early each morning for God to speak His love into his heart and mind for an hour before he gets out of bed. When we know God loves us, when we remember God loves us, life is much easier to face. Our concerns find a place to rest, a place of assurance and grace.
Whatever we may feel about the results of this election, we have God’s love, love enough to secure us, love enough to love others. People who know they are loved are people of great grace toward others. They have nothing to prove and nothing to fear. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Love is victorious in any situation. (Romans 8:38-39 ESV) Love is victorious in any situation. Let’s see what God can do as we give to others the unmerited love He has given to us.
The foundation for life is secure in God’s love, God’s love for us, and God’s love for the world.
